Hey, Hannah here,
Death. We fear it. We run away away from it. We question it. We let it consume us. Yet we do not know what it is. Over the years we have come up with so many ideas, different opinions about it, different ideas about it, yet we do not know for sure exactly what death is. We cannot explain what happens during death or after but we try because we have made death into a force that needs to be explained, that needs a reason for being.
Scientists say that during the last moments of your life your brain plays back memories those sweet times in your life that you truly cherished, those moments spent with those who really matter. They say that(do correct me if I'm wrong) we, everything about us is basically in our brains (I've thought too hard about this way too many times) our emotions are a result of the brain reacting to certain hormones so when our brains finally die that would mean we stop feeling. Our brains are dead, our bodies start decaying and that is the end.
In Christianity, it is believed that after death there is judgment and based on your doings, your motives and intentions you will be judged. People who died in sin, will be condemned to an eternity in hell. There will be pain and suffering non stop forever, whereas people who died in Christ will be allowed to live in Heaven and reign with the Lord forever.
In Hinduism, the idea of reincarnation is taken up. After a person has died their soul will be reborn another body to live again. In Japanese culture they believe in the shinigami, who ruled over death. The Greeks believed in Hades, god of the underworld, the Egyptians believed in Anubis and the vikings believe that vikings who die bravely in war will go to Valhalla .
In short, many philosophers see death in so many different ways. They argue over it all the time, no one can agree to what death really is or what happens after death but we all know one thing; it's inevitable, its like a side package with life. Two sides of a coin, you cant have life without death, nor death without life. If we all know that no matter what, death will surely happen no matter who you are, what you have done or what you believe, why do we spend so much time thinking about it? I understand, its hard to deal with the loss of a loved one and many fear their own deaths, but why? No matter how much you think, or wonder, or question its going to happen. Its like that scary injection you don't want to take but are still going to have to.
I spent some time trying to reason out the fear of death, I resolved, people are scared of what they do not understand. We can't put death in a test tube and experiment on it, so they begin to fear it. They begin to ask what ifs. Either that or worse, they try to shut it out, to pretend it doesn't exist. Well it does and I learnt the hard way.
My mum used to be a twin till he died. They were extremely Close and even became doctors together he helped her through the worst of times and she supported him when he felt he could no longer go on. They were always there for each other. My uncle was asthmatic and although I am not too sure what exactly killed him but I figured he probably choked. When my mum told me the news of his death I just wasn't the same anymore, I couldn't understand why, why death would be so cruel as to take a man in the prime of his life. I thought so much about it that I got a headache, Today I sit down and look back almost thankfully. Sure, I had lost my uncle but I gained a new experience, a new opinion and new ideas.
I no longer picture death as the grim reaper reaping souls off to hell. I prefer to look at death as a beautiful young woman with this aura of mystery, she has this intense gaze and the darkest eyes, maybe a brunette, around her mid twenties or early thirties taking people she deems worthy of eternal freedom from pain and suffering. No more will that person weep or know such pain. They are free. They have been granted eternal escape, bliss, so why are we mourning them?
When you think of death like that, it is hard to mourn for a person. I have not learnt to control Death or understand her, but i have accepted her as part of my life.

Deep. A nice way to look at it but making it look that glorious and appealing makes me worry that you may consider it as an option when life gets tough. Im I wrong?
ReplyDeleteI also said that I do not know for sure what happens after death. I simply believe that we should accept death and not fight or question it, its bound to happen, it inevitable. Thank you for looking into my blog and asking. Stick around for more posts, Thanks.
