Hey, Hannah here,
Looking for a good book to read? Look no further! Here's a reading list of books I guarantee are works of pure genius. Not in any particular order.
1)Memoirs of a geisha, Arthur Golden: a historical fiction based o a the life account of a Japanese geisha. In a world where appearances matter most, where a girl's virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, where a woman is trained to beguile the most powerful men and where love is seen as nothing but an illusion a young girl Chiyo-Chan, grows and flourishes into one of the most powerful geisha. Brilliant, a true work of art.
2)Woman at Point zero, Nawal El Saadawi: Firdaus's story begins in a prison cell, where she accepts her death sentence as a relief from pain. Born in a peasant family, Firdaus's desire for education is ignored by her family and is forced to marry as older man. Following her escape fro violent relationships she meets Sharifa who leads her into prostitution, saying "a man does not know a woman's worth, the higher you price yourself the more he realises your worth". A true female revolt against the norms of Arab world. A truly feminist book.
3) Little Women, Louisa May Alcott: The story revolves around the March sisters living in a small New England community. Meg, is the oldest and wishes to be a lady, Jo, is next. A tomboyish fifteen year old who wants to be an author. Beth, is a sweet girl at thirteen and Amy at twelve is a rather vain blonde beauty. This is definitely my favourite classic. I feel like I can relate with all of them especially Jo. There is also a sequel. Good wives.
4)Americanah, Chimamanda Adichie: In their teenage years, Obinze and Ifemelu fall in love. People are leaving the country and Ifeemelu leaves for America where alonfside defeats and triumphs, she comes across the inevitable question of race. Obinze, unable to join her goes to the UK as an illegal immigrant in London. After years they have both achieved success, Ifemelu as a blogger and Obinze as a wealthy business man in Nigeria. When she moves back to Nigeria he most make the biggest decision of their lives.
5)Redeeming love, Francine Rivers: Angel, sold into prostitution as a child, expects nothing more from men but betrayal. Then she meets Micheal Hosea. He obeys Gods call to marry her and love her unconditionally. Day by day he defies her hatred and her heart begins, unwillingly to thaw. She begins to fear these new feelings so she runs. An emotional Christian romance novel.
Those are some books you can try out this June and July. Don't forget to follow on twitter @HKay05 if you have any questions then send an email to thelittlethings58@gmail.com.
